Sunday Paddle - Violettes Lock, GW Canal loop

About this event

The Memorial Day Weekend’s Sunday Paddle will be the GW Canal. We’ll meet at Violette’s Lock by 10:00 AM. However, parking can be limited here so I encourage folks to get there early if possible.

We’ll set out from Violette’s Lock, crossing the Potomac River above Seneca Breaks to the VA side. From there we’ll continue down the Potowmack Canal until we rejoin the Potomac River. After rejoining the Potomac we’ll cross back over to the Maryland side to drop into the C&O Canal and paddle back to the Violette’s Lock parking lot.

This is a Class 2 run, and a great place to practice white water moves. Boaters should have basic boat control and floatation for their boats. Life jackets are required. Helmets are strongly recommended, and required for kayakers. If you need gear, please reach out ahead of time to let the Trip Coordinator know so we can try to help.

The weather is forecast to be partly cloudy with a high in the mid-80s. With no real rain in the forecast, the Little Falls gauge is projected to be at 3.9 feet by Sunday. Water temp is currently 76 degrees (as of Th, 5/23).

Please contact Pam at white.pamela@gmail.com if you plan to paddle with us or have any questions. Additionally, my cell is 571-216-4290.
