Staircase Thursday 5/11 we
Author Last Post

We had 15 paddlers on the Staircase (3.4’) Thursday.5/11. Larry and Hendrick were in canoes and Mike, Chris, Peter, Gary, Amy, Zofia, Tony, Bruce, Ken, Marilyn, Virginia, Sheila, and Mark in kayaks. We had one (only one) spill at Bull Falls and played and surfed our way down the Shenandoah. Near the confluence we noticed that the final rapid, Roller Coaster, was largely washed out. The Potomac was at 20,000 cfs! The run down the Potomac through Whitehorse was turbulent. The wave train at the bottom was spicy, but you could stay right to avoid the largest waves. We took out at HFAC where we found a large snapping turtle lounging on the concrete.
