MLK Day 2023 GW Paddle @LF 3.56 ft
Author Last Post

Thirteen paddlers took advantage of an unseasonably warm MLK Holiday to paddle the GW canal. The Little Falls gauge was reading 3.57 ft at the time of put in, which translated to a fine level.

In K1s were: Gary S., Chris O., Peter R., Jim C., Hildy F., John S., Jenny T., Jim S. and Lisa L. In OC-1s were: Gary and Ginny Q, Kim B. and Alan G. We were joined for part of the trip by Temmy K. in a K-1.

All paddled the GW canal without drama. After exiting back to the main river, the group split into a number of groups. Some chose to attain back up Seneca Breaks, some continued down to Pennyfield, one wheeled their canoe back to VL from Block House Point on the C&O tow path, and one paddled back to VL via the C&O canal. Note that the latter reported the C&O canal remains a bit of a muddy slog as a result of the current lower water levels in the canal.
