Registration Opens for May 9 Potomac Downriver Race
The Annual Potomac Downriver Race, the longest consecutively run paddling race in the nation, will be held Saturday, May 9.
The CCA website has complete details, including a link for registration, the day's schedule, boat categories, waiver requirements, and a link for volunteering. Volunteers are always needed at the start and finish, and for on-river safety.
The race has been run every year since 1956. It almost always is run from below Great Falls to Sycamore Island, a 7.5-mile whitewater stretch. Organizers this year will have a careful eye on water quality in light of the Potomac Interceptor sewage spill and will adjust the course as needed.
