Once again, I’m afraid I have an update for tomorrow’s paddle. The run from Old Anglers Inn to Lock 10 is cancelled again this week due to high water.

Today, I rode my bike from Anglers down to Lock 6 on the C&O canal so I could check out the water conditions along the way. And from what I could see everything is largely washed out from the high-water levels. It just doesn’t look like an enjoyable run, so we’ll hope for better conditions next Wednesday.

So, instead, for those interested, we are going to meet at lock 6 (the gates) and have a work out/play session.

As most of you know, it is a weekday so the traffic controls on Clara Barton make it difficult to get to the Lock 6 parking lot, so it’s probably best to park in the Brookmont neighborhood near the intersection of Valley and Broad Street (just off of Maryland Ave). You can use "101 Valley Road, Bethesda, MD" as an address for you GPS. That will get you to the neighborhood. Once you geared up, walk down to the Lock 6 parking lot to meet the rest of us.

We’ll meet in the Lock 6 parking lot at ~6PM (ish) and walk down to the river.

PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator in advance. And finally, be prepared for the predicted temperature for that time of day and bring plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.
