We’re setting up a pick-up trip for Sunday 11/17. The run will be the Shenandoah Staircase from the Millville put-in down to the Harpers Ferry Adventure Center take-out. The predicted water level is pretty low (~2.1 ft/1,000 cfs) so this approximately 5-mile trip might take the better part of the sunlit day. As such, we plan to get a fairly early start. This is normally a Class II/II+ run, but with the water level this low I think will be well within the Class II range.

We’ll meet at the Harper’s Ferry Adventure Center (in front of the registration building) at 9:30 AM and set up shuttles from there. As always, please let the trip coordinator (Dean Hawes, dean@haweslink.net), 703-862-5721) know if you will be joining. Please bring a lunch and/or snacks.

The forecast for Sunday shows a high of 63 degrees and partly cloudy skies. I expect the water temperature to be pretty chilly so be sure you dress for the swim.

*NOTE OF CAUTION*
It’s going to be chilly out there, and the Shenandoah can be colder than the Potomac so please dress for the swim, and layer appropriately. (Better to be hot than cold ?). PFDs are required for all. Helmets are required for kayakers using spray skirts and highly recommended for all others. Airbags are strongly encouraged for boats without other means of flotation. If you need safety equipment, please advise the trip coordinator in advance.
