Two CCAers participated in the 15th annual Lehigh Classic whitewater race on Saturday, August 29th. The race is over an approximately 5.5 mile stretch of the 8.7 mile upper portion of the Lehigh Gorge, between the Whitehaven and Rockport access areas. A 1700 cfs release provided for a fast current and bouncy waves, so that the challenge was not to avoid rocks but rather to seek the fastest path through some turbulent rapids (class II+). Both CCA paddlers earned awards: Hugh Hilliard 1st in the Old School Longboat - Men's class, and Lisa Peterson 2nd in the Greenboat Style Longboat - Women's class. It was a fun race, followed by an awards ceremony at the Lehigh River Festival at the Whitewater Challengers facility.
