Trip Report: Little Falls, Oct 23, 2025

Submitted by David Cottingham, Trip Coordinator

On a glorious October day, 17 hearty paddlers bumped their way through the Z-channel from the Feeder Canal and into the mainstem of the Potomac. Many of the regular Thursday paddling gang were there as well as several people who are furloughed from the Federal shutdown. Little Falls gage was at 2.70 ft. Temperatures hovered around 60 with barely a cloud in the sky. Trees were changing color but not quite as peak color just yet. Three people swam but were immediately rescued by a strong crew of experienced paddlers. Sean Trench (K-1) had his Personal First Decent down the Beaver Slide.

Kayakers included: Phil Elliott, Rolando Arrieta, Mark Brenneman, Dan Rick, Sean Trench, Chris Oberlin, Ken Cohen, Paul Englehart, Ned Howenstine, Gary Steinberg, Eliza Cava, John Enagonio, Bruce Campbell, Jared Espley, Pete Dragon, and David Cottingham (trip coordinator)

OC-1: Ginny Quam
