Trip Reports

Bloomington release Potomac North Branch 11 May
John Snitzer

Rich Conde coordinated a fine trip down the North Branch on Sunday. We had 8 paddlers: Rich, Robin, Tony A, Beth, Miki, Lisa F, Dave C, and John S. on a brilliant warm day. Collectively, our group had well over a hundred trips down the North Branch. All paddled elegantly.

We trialed a new lunch spot at the now washed out beaver lodge on river right. It features easy access and a sunny spot for lunch although it lacks the attractions of dank weeds and the fine view of the decaying concrete retaining wall with the hole that no one surfs anymore.

There is still a downed tree mid-strean in the rapid after lunch that is usually run on the left side. It is obvious. Look before you start. Tony and Robin set safety at the falls. There was no need for rescue.

We heard reports from other paddlers of wonderful days on the Cassleman and Antietam Creek. It feels good to have some rain and well-watered streams.
