Dear Paddlers,

We know it's an insignificant trip, but we keep getting inquiries of whether the return part of the GWC Loop is navigable. Might any of you who are able to paddle it or see someone doing it - please post what you discover here. The NPS says it'll refill in mid-April, but certainty before then would help us running early Loop trips.

On Sat, March 1, Larry Lempert reported insufficient water at Violettes.

Not navigable as of March 15th

Still de-watered on March 20th

And likely to remain un-navigable, as the Canal authorities told us on the 24th March that they need to remove the accumulated debris above the Inlet Lock at Violettes, pull out a couple of trunks in the Canal, and fix Pennyfield Lock before letting the river's waters into the ditch. So later in April, I'm afraid.
