Well, contrary to Topper Schutt and Steve Rudin, the winds today didn’t keep five of us from enjoying a lovely fall day on our home river, the Potomac. We paddled from Anglers to Lock 10 with azure skies and trees just starting to turn color. We had 4 K1s (Barb B, Alf C, Wayne M and Kathleen S) and yours truly in his OC1. The level was 2.9 ft, which we all agreed was about canoe 0 for this stretch. [More precisely, 2.8 ft is CZ for Offutts Rapid; CZ for Yellow Falls and Stubblefield is somewhat less. awc] The NW winds were minimal and at times at our back. Air and water temps were in the low 60s. Afterwards, we had a fine repast al fresco at the ever popular Fish Tacos.
