Trying our luck on Father's Day Sunday - 14 of us discovered ample parking at VL at 8:00 (an hour before our usual time.) We were: Barb Brown, Alan Gale, Luke Parker, Jackie Hoglund, Mikey Baummer, Kathleen Sengstock, Toni Bickart, Bob Harford, Laura Thompson, Sam Khorshide, John Snitzer, Alena Volkava, Dave Madland, and your scribe, all in kayaks. Tim Tilson came to the riverside to see us off and go for a stroll at Rileys. We were off by 8:30 and stayed in one extended group with Alf as probe and Barb as sweep. Beautiful, temperate day. No wood of note; the new trunk at the bottom of 30-Eddy (final) Rapid was aligned with the flow, so today was not threatening. Back into a well watered C&O Canal, where we saw a large (one-foot-long shell) snapping turtle in the water. Out at 11:30 - ready for our NEXT Father's Day activity.

While it was barely possible to go left into the Potomac at 30-Eddy, the usual passage has a trunk in it. Either we or Calleva remove it, or we have to drop down the Virginia-side channel and work our way back up a bit and out to the River.
