Coast Guard Seeks Boating Survey Participants

The U.S. Coast Guard, which is undertaking outreach for a nationwide survey that it conducts periodically to help inform boating safety efforts, is asking boaters of all stripes to sign up for possible selection as survey respondents.

A Coast Guard announcement says, "The National Recreational Boating Safety Survey (NRBSS) is a nationwide survey sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard to understand how many people go boating, what types of boats they use, and how often they are on the water. As part of the survey, we are asking for volunteers to complete a brief sign-up page asking about their boating habits and share their contact information with the Coast Guard so a wide range of boaters can be invited to participate in the larger NRBSS survey later in the year." Boaters are encouraged to visit the sign-up information page.

The survey, last done in 2018, will be conducted by a non-partisan research group at the University of Chicago. Over 50,000 households will be invited to participate. Survey responses will be confidential and will be used only for statistical summaries. Results will help shape safety standards, law enforcement programs, and boating policies nationwide, the Coast Guard said.
