Hello to CCA members! My name is Tim Lapham, and I am the new Safety Chair for CCA. I am a Swiftwater Rescue Instructor (ACA Level 3). My background is mostly in whitewater canoeing, but I’m learning to love kayaking too! I look forward to working with everyone. My main goal is to be an ambassador for safety on the water.
I’ll be using the Blog to post on topics relative to aquatic safety. As a volunteer-run organization, we don’t have the resources to run a anybody-can-post-anything-blog, but if you have any questions, or any safety stories to share, please contact me by email at safety@canoecruisers.org. If you’re wondering about something, there are probably a lot of other paddlers wondering the same thing. I’ll do my best to give you the most accurate information, and dispel any misinformation.
Be sure to check out the CCA sidebar Instruction, and scroll down to Swiftwater Rescue, for more information on formal Swiftwater Rescue training.
See you on the river!
For the record, my relevant training: ACA Swiftwater Rescue Instructor, Level 3; ACA Tandem Canoe Instructor, Level 3; Red Cross Lifeguard; RC CPR/AED for Adults/Peds Instructor; RC CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Instructor; RC Wilderness First Aid Instructor; Aquatics Instructor (Scouting America); Physician (licensed in Virginia, currently practicing).
