July 4th Fireworks Flotilla
Come celebrate our independence and post-covid freedom with a picnic, evening paddle and pyrotechnic panorama. This fun annual paddling event from Fletcher’s Cove to Theodore Roosevelt Island offers unobstructed views, a flat-water 3-mile commute, and free mid-river parking.
Bring your own picnic, chairs, and boat lights. We’ll meet at Fletcher’s parking lot at 6pm, enjoy a bit of mask-less mingling, and put-in by 7:30 for the leisurely float down river. It takes about 45 minutes to paddle downstream, arriving in time to anchor and socialize before the first salvo at 9:00.
The paddle back is in the dark, so carry flashlights and glow sticks. Most of the return paddle is lit by bridges, Washington Canoe Club and the GW Parkway. It is only the final swing into Fletchers that is in darkness.
Please let Shae Metcalf or Gregory Maassen know you are coming. Thanks and see you there.
