MD Rte 34 crossing the Antietam NE of Sharpsburg.
After more than the usual amount of dithering :-) it appears that Lower Antietam Creek is the plan for Sunday. Level expected to be 3.5 ft/350 cfs or lower.
A cheat sheet for Antietam Creek - Lower is available on the CCA website under Trip Planning > Trip Coordinator Sheets.
Please notify Jackie at jhoglund1 at yahoo.com if you would like to join. A final confirmation email will be sent at 8:30 am on Sunday.
Meet at the put-in at 12:30 to drop boats and run the shuttle. There will be an on the river lunch stop, and possibly an off the river ice cream stop in Sharpsburg.
Weather: Sunny, with a high near 52. North wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph, but I‘m told the creeks should provide us with some protection from the wind.
This is a Class II trip. Paddlers should dress for immersion. At water temps below 70 (and we are looking at 40s) that means neoprene, a dry top, or a dry suit. Boat control in moving water is essential. Life jackets are required. Helmets are strongly encouraged (mandatory for kayakers). Kayakers should have a skirt. Boats should have flotation. Please reach out to the Trip Coordinator with any questions.
SYOTR,
Jackie

Alternate Thursday Paddle:
There will also be a tamer trip to the George Washington Canal. In an attempt to avoid the predicted morning rain we will meet at Pennyfield Lock at 1:00 to set shuttle, having already eaten lunch. Predicted temp is low 50s (air and water). If you plan to join, please sign up with Wayne McDaniel (macinmd1@gmail.com, 443 542 8779).
Mark says, I will probably end up on the Staircase this Thursday. The level should be inthe mid 3’ range. However, if the Patapsco comes up enough I might switch venues. If interested, contact Mark Brenneman at mabrenneman@verizon.net.
