Bloomie Release - Sat, 25 Aug 2018
Alford Cooley
by John Snitzer,

The North Branch release (an extra 1,000 cfs - on 2 days, due to extra water behind the Jennings Dam) was yet again a fine paddle. We were 12, John S and John F, k1, John and Christine S, OC, Cindy R, Ron S, Angel A, Jean O, Rolando A and Greg, plus two unanticipated paddlers Wen-Gong and Ken, all in k1.

The North Branch is an old friend, relaxed and bouncy.  In a year when favorite streams have looked like cafe au lait, it was a pleasure to paddle clear cold water.  All paddled elegantly and we had a dry hair day except for a missed practice roll near the takeout. People split about evenly on Robin's Nest between the knuckle route and the center line heading left. It was fun to paddle with Ron and Jean who between them have over a hundred NB trips and to introduce an old favorite to first timers Angel, Cindy, and Wen-Gong.

Safety note, there is a new strainer, a tree completely across the jug handle on river right in the last rapid. Easily avoided by taking the main channel.

Trip was rated 10/10.
