Trip Reports

Staircase at 3.34 - 29 April, 2021
Wayne McDaniel

11 intrepid paddlers (Bruce C, Cotton, Gary & Ginny Q, Jenny T, Kim B, Mark B, Mike K {PFD}, Paul M, Sheila C & Wayne McD) paddled the Staircase in moderately high water (3.34’, 2520 cfs). Overcast and a few sprinkles but none of the threatened thunderstorms materialized so weather was judged an A. Interestingly, at Bull Falls it appears that a new slot has opened up, just to the right of slot 4 (aka Deadman’s slot). Appears to be a clean drop so warrants further investigation. We spotted several eagles, including one lifting off from the river with a newly-captured fish in its talons. White Horse rapid was cookin’ with major waves (Point of Rocks gauge – 3.21’, 8590 cfs). No carnage to report.
