Thursday Paddlers - Lower Yough Sept 19
Author Last Post

It was a beautiful early fall-like day and a jovial crowd of 13 gathered to paddle the Lower Yough. The group consisted of Mark B., Jim P., Randy S., Keith L., Gisela P., Anne K., Rob R., Gary S., Carrie S., Sheila C., and Jenny T. (trip leader) in kayaks and Larry L., and Ross D. in canoes. The level was 1.68 feet.

Put-in logistics have become somewhat complicated because of the re-routing of the road through Ohiopyle to build a tunnel for boaters to go under Main Street to get to the river. The best parking (during the week) is in the visitor center lot upstream of the put-in and next to the Falls Overlook. It certainly makes the carry down to the put-in more cumbersome. But once we were on the river, a fine time was had by all. There was a spirit of adventure amongst the group and many took new, exploratory routes through some of the rapids. There were several well executed rolls and one safe swim over the course of the day.
