GW Canal - LF 3.14 ft., Thurs. June 10, 2021
Author Last Post

A very small group of us all in OC-1s, Hendrik vO., Gary and Ginny Q. decided to do a Thurs. Violettes Lock loop as we weren't quite ready to attempt Little Falls above 3 ft. We made the call at 8am to meet at 9:30 because of the weather forecast, as we were expecting rain by noon. As it turned out, we had partly sunny skies, mid to high 80s, winds calm. A beautiful day with hot water temp of 82. We played at the wave hole and took the right channel after Diagonal. We considered getting in to cool down at Jacuzzi rapid, but decided not to. Eddy hopped and surfed at the bottom rapid. There was no new wood or any other hazards to speak of. We enjoyed a nice peaceful run, surfed a couple times crossing back over the river and had plenty of water in the C&O canal for our return trip. We counted 32 turtles coming back up the canal and that didn't include two dead turtles, one of which looked like a snapper.
