Goose Creek - Kephart Bridge Landing
TOO MUCH WATER ON SATURDAY - TOO MUCH WIND ON SUNDAY -
///////////////// Sorry, everyone ! ///////
For the first Weekender trip I was choosing the close-in Goose -which the notoriously dodgy Leesburg gauge was predicting to be running at 1,500 cfs at put-in time (11:00). (Canoe Zero is 200 cfs.) Going to be sunny but COLD - (high at 50) ////////////// Alf
NB - This was the first day of DST.

The BRV paddlers will show several NPFF movies on March 13 at 6:45 PM sharp to get your paddling juices flowing.
The film La Petite Rivière involves paddling several Canadian Rivers off the Laurentian Shield to the St. Lawrence Seaway. They include footage from a 1983 run of the Saint-Jean River in end-hole decked C-2s. Compare it to what is being done on the same river in plastic kayaks.
There are two short films: one about Little Falls in high water 6.47 feet in February and the other about a NPS rescue at Meat Grinder on the New.
This free event will take place at the Clara Barton Rec Center (7425 Macarthur Blvd., Cabin John, MD 20818). Club memberships available $10.
Gary Quam is targeting the Cacapon River with Antietam Creek as backup. If interested, contact Gary at gquam64@gmail.com.
Mark hopes to do the Lost River if it is runnable, if not he will go to Hopeville Canyon. If interested, contact Mark Brenneman at mabrenneman@verizon.net. It was Hopeville - see TR
Let’s meet at 11:00am at Route 34 put-in (18501 Shepherdstown Pike, Keedysville, MD) to drop boats and set shuttle. The water is still cold, so dress appropriately. This will be an approx. 6 mile paddle (route 34 bridge to takeout at Harpers Ferry Rd bridge) with mostly Class 1 and a few Class II rapids. Bring lunch/snack and water. With recent floods, there are possible deadfalls, so boat control is a must in case we need to portage and/or paddle around fallen trees/strainers.
Please contact Hildy (cellphone 703-431-6588 or email hferraiolo@gmail.com) by 4 PM on Friday if you’d like to join. I need a firm commitment so shuttle can be pre-arranged. No late add-ons, please. My Verizon cellphone reception at put-in might be spotty, so calls/text may not work.

Wilson Creek is a class III-IV high quality small river located near Lenoir, North Carolina. A classic creek of the Southeast, Wilson is comparable to the Cheat Canyon. For a quick 24 hour trip, we will drive down on the evening of March 21, run the creek on the morning of March 22 and then drive back into the evening of March 22. This trip is dependent on water levels, and Wilson typically has good levels in March, but we will cancel if the level is too low.
See the American Whitewater description for Wilson Creek Gorge here: https://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/view/river-detail/1146/main
Please contact me beforehand if you want to come: email at tphackma-AT-gmail-DOT-com or cell phone: 518-eightonethree-sixseveneightzero

MD Rte 34 crossing the Antietam NE of Sharpsburg.
After more than the usual amount of dithering :-) it appears that Lower Antietam Creek is the plan for Sunday. Level expected to be 3.5 ft/350 cfs or lower.
A cheat sheet for Antietam Creek - Lower is available on the CCA website under Trip Planning > Trip Coordinator Sheets.
Please notify Jackie at jhoglund1 at yahoo.com if you would like to join. A final confirmation email will be sent at 8:30 am on Sunday.
Meet at the put-in at 12:30 to drop boats and run the shuttle. There will be an on the river lunch stop, and possibly an off the river ice cream stop in Sharpsburg.
Weather: Sunny, with a high near 52. North wind 10 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph, but I‘m told the creeks should provide us with some protection from the wind.
This is a Class II trip. Paddlers should dress for immersion. At water temps below 70 (and we are looking at 40s) that means neoprene, a dry top, or a dry suit. Boat control in moving water is essential. Life jackets are required. Helmets are strongly encouraged (mandatory for kayakers). Kayakers should have a skirt. Boats should have flotation. Please reach out to the Trip Coordinator with any questions.
SYOTR,
Jackie

Alternate Thursday Paddle:
There will also be a tamer trip to the George Washington Canal. In an attempt to avoid the predicted morning rain we will meet at Pennyfield Lock at 1:00 to set shuttle, having already eaten lunch. Predicted temp is low 50s (air and water). If you plan to join, please sign up with Wayne McDaniel (macinmd1@gmail.com, 443 542 8779).
Mark says, I will probably end up on the Staircase this Thursday. The level should be inthe mid 3’ range. However, if the Patapsco comes up enough I might switch venues. If interested, contact Mark Brenneman at mabrenneman@verizon.net.
