GW Canal - 6 May, 2018
Author Last Post
Eight intrepid paddlers (Gordon L, Hein B, Lou, Paul S Peter R, Tim T, Wayne McD and Wenyang) braved unseasonably cool weather and a dodgy forecast paddled the GW Canal. We were rewarded when not a drop of rain fell on us. We set shuttle at Pennyfield since the C&O Canal is still drained (and likely will remain so for the season). As we crossed Seneca Lake we were intercepted by a speeding DNR police boat so I expect El Presidente was at the golf course. However, they were OK with us turning downstream into the canal - we didn't have to run Seneca Breaks as some previous groups have experienced. The paddle was routine with many rapids mostly washed out by the high water (3.97', 10,100 cfs). Off the river shortly after 11.
